Bethany's BlogWords of Encouragement

If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn't touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back.

Hebrews 10:34

On your lonliest days, the times you feel afraid or let down, remember where your treasure truely lies. This is not your home, for God has placed eternity within you, the real treasure. He has placed within your hearts the passionate Spirit of God, and it is there that you will thrive. The surroundings of our world can look dismal, catapulting anyone into a race for a worldly treasure, when all along the treasure is what you believe about yourself and your God! He is there to rescue you from any despair and walk with you through every journey.

His treasure is YOU.

He will stick by you, no matter where you go. He will deal with the enemies at your hearts door. He will be your wrap-around shield so that all you do is move forward praising Him for His loving protection.

Today, I will focus on the real treasure. The gold He has placed within me and the gold of who He is. Every step I take will be a shining one for Him, and my thoughts will be content. This is my God, the One who saves me and lifts me up to heavenly places. The One who has seated me beside Him to live an eternal life here on earth and in heaven.

Today let there be praise on your lips and in your heart!

Sweet Days

Just as lotins and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.

Proverbs 27:9

My husband and I were talking this morning about the sweetness of our children, and our family as a whole.  Our two youngest children are still at home, but in just 10 short years from now they will be grown up and out of the house. It will be very different for us, as we have had children in our home for over 32 years! There have been many sweet moments. And, many difficult ones too. We are so blessed to have grandchildren fill our rooms with laughter and sweet reminders of when their fathers were young.  We have many thankful prayers to our Father in heaven for the blessing of daughters in our life, daughters that love our sons. Our baby is a girl, and she has touched our hearts with a sweetness that brings such joy and sentiment. Her beauty shines within and without, and watching her grow has been a delight, and a challenge.

There is so much sweetness! The touch of friendship with my family and the family of God, has reached inside of me and blessed me beyond measure. My soul is refreshed by the sweetness of dear friends, and the ease of their company. God has blessed me with a circle of women that I can just be with and know that acceptance, love, and adventure has added richness to our lives.  He brings the fragrance of His Spirit to dwell amongst the ties of the heart, and I know how blessed I am.

What is sweet for you today? Who has God brought into your life that refreshes your soul? How is He teaching you to be a sweetness to others?

Today is the day to know how blessed you are by the sweetness of those around you.

Our Creator

God, Creator of the heavens--he is, remember, God. Maker of earth--he put it on its foundations, built it from scratch. He didn't go to all that trouble to just leave it empty, nothing in it. He made it to be lived in.  This GOD says: " I am GOD, the one and only."

Isaiah 45:18

God is the ultimate Creator. It's amazing to me how He has designed our world, so full of color, wonder, and hope.  He created man from nothing, and woman from man. And, He gave them the freedom to create in the world He has provided. The first thing He shows about Himself is that He is creative! He thought up everything then implemented it. Amazing!

I've been asking God to show me more of who He created me to be, the creative side. I've been asking Him to fill my mind with His Spirit and then display it.  I've been taking quiet time and painting the meaning of words, after asking God to show me. It's been very fun for me and God has revealed a part of Himself to me that is fun.

As children of God, we have the mind of Christ, which means we can tap into His creative abilities. I like this. I like that through Him I can learn to think differently, see the world He created differently, and express His love in creative ways. It brings me joy.

What is God revealing to you today about your ability to create? Where is He asking you to journey that feels outside your normal thinking? How is He expressing His love to you through creation?

The Strength of Joy

You made me so happy, God. I saw your work and I shouted for joy.

Psalms 92:4

There is so much beauty; God's gift to each one of us, do you see it? The color and details of life speak of God's passion, and His creative joy. There are times in life that it is so easy to be caught up in the pain, we are easily blinded to the gifts, especially the gift of joy.

His joy comes from within, Him in you and you in Him. His very presence moving within you and bringing a sense, a knowledge, and a peace. Joy is God himself working wonders within you. His shield around you giving you an immense ability to walk through storms. His joy brings strength beyond anything you could do all alone.

There have been times in my life that have been very challenging, and I've experienced so much saddness. Yet, deep within my heart I have joy as well. It's the joy of knowing I am eternal with my Father and that in His hands my life will go in a direction that wins. Somehow, someway, His joy penetrates deep within and changes everything. It gives the strength to walk through the pain.

Today I am praying that your joy in Jesus will be full, alive, and vivid with color. His joy will carry you through any journey your life is taking. His joy will be your strength.

We pray that you'll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul--not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy.
