Bethany's ReviewsI tried it, I read it, and this is what I think

This novel is a bit on the shallow side, but it's easy reading for a lazy day. The characters are searching for love, connections, the hope of fitting in, and coping with life. She brings to surface that not all things are as they seem on the outside. It was an okay book, but not a favorite.

Small Great Things is inspired by a true story. It is heart wrenching at times, and page turning. The book brings forward the issue of racism in our country and what that looks like. It really got my brain churning with thoughts and questions about my approach to life. The characters involve an African American nurse, a caucsion lawyer, and a white supremist.  This is not an easy book to read, and I certainly wouldn't recomment it for everyone, but if you want to see some real issues and challenge yourself, then go for it!

Two Steps Forward is the sequal to Sensible Shoes. I loved both books and found them to be easy to read, yet also thought provoking. I liked how the ladies in the book journeyed together, each of the growing in ways that stretched them emotionally, spiritually, and physically. They persisted in prayer for each other and loved each other unconditionally. They learned to reflect on life, forgive in life, and continue to hope and persevere in life.

This book is a great reminder of who I am, where I belong, and what I am becoming. Havilah asks good questions about real life and journeys the reader through the meals of life, always bringing us back to God's Word and the unlimited possibilities within His truth.
